The Ten Commitments – For When the World Overwhelms You

There were four of us, in the bar at Que Pasa, talking about how best to realise diZsa’s idea. The idea was to extend a helping hand to members of our meditation group, at a place where they could just drop in, have a chat about their problems and receive some help from experienced therapists.

We had a possible venue, but what I didn’t know was the sort of problems that people were seeking help for.

I asked, and the response surprised me.

It seemed the most common problem that caused a request for help was a feeling of being overwhelmed. In other words, life and its problems had become just too much to cope with.

I know life can get tough, and some of the problems I’ve heard that other people have to deal with make me realise that not only have I been incredibly fortunate, but I have led a relatively sheltered life free from threats of violence or homelessness. Still I’ve been through my own mill and suffered through Hells that seemed to be designed just for me.

In my exploration of those Hells and with my 15 years working as a therapist I’ve learned a few coping mechanisms, so I thought about it and decided I could create something tailored to just get you through one day when your world overwhelms you.

So I did.

I called it The Ten Commitments – How to survive when the world overwhelms you.

It’s a very short Kindle book. Deliberately brief so that the solution to the problems doesn’t itself add to the overwhelm.

The premise is simple. Commit to doing 10 simple things and you will discover that you can survive your day.

The 10 simple things have been carefully designed to bring about subtle changes in how the world is viewed and consequently that overwhelming world is changed forever.

The book isn’t designed to solve your problems. It’s designed to get you through today. Having done that, you know that you can do that any time you choose and so no future day can threaten your safety any more.

It is simply powerful.

It will change your world if you do what it suggests.

But it is only for those who are overwhelmed, have reached the end of their tether, and feel they can no longer cope.

It is for those on the point of giving up on themselves.

Keep it in mind and recommend it to anyone you know who is struggling with life right now.

Why Anger Stops Depression from Lifting

I was at my meditation group earlier this week and when we finish all that thirsty meditating we pop downstairs to the bar for a drink. I got talking to a lady who has suffered from depression for quite a few years.

While I was talking to her I remembered Abraham’s idea about an emotional scale. There are 22 points on this emotional scale Joy is at the top, depression is at the bottom. In between are a whole stack of other emotional states – the majority of them negative.

The idea is that you will be at some point on the scale right now and to get to a higher point on the scale you have to move through the intermediate points. So, for example, if you were worried (#14) and wanted to feel contentment (#7) you would have to experience Doubt, Disappointment, Overwhelment, Frustration, Pessimism, and Boredom before you got what you wanted. Abraham-Hicks, in their book Ask and it is Given talk about techniques for rapidly moving through these emotional states so that you arrive quickly at neutral or positive energy states. If you are interested in shifting your emotional state, or Law of Attraction, I highly recommend Ask and It Is Given.

Abraham’s Emotional Scale

1 . Joy/Appreciation/Empowered/Freedom/Love
2 . Passion
3 . Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness
4 . Positive Expectation/Belief
5 . Optimism
6 . Hopefulness
7 . Contentment
8 . Boredom
9 . Pessimism
10. Frustration/Irritation/Impatience
11. Overwhelment
12. Disappointment
13. Doubt
14. Worry
15. Blame
16. Discouragement
17. Anger
18. Revenge
19. Hatred/Rage
20. Jealousy
21. Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness
22. Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness

From the book Ask & It Is Given.

What I wanted to write about today is not what Abraham has covered so well, but why people get stuck in emotional states like depression. My conversation, mentioned earlier, reminded me of the reason.

When you look at the bottom of the scale and work upwards you see a lot of negative and undesirable emotional states. There is nothing anyone would want until you get to Contentment at number 7. But I want you to look at the relationship between two: Depression and Anger.

Assuming that Abraham’s premise is true and you do have to move up the scale then to get out of depression you have to experience Guilt, Jealousy, Hatred, Revenge and then Anger. Depression is a low energy state, all of these have more energy associated with them, but they all have very negative associations. Many of us have been taught that anger is bad, or maybe a sin and that we shouldn’t get angry. When you have powerful programming like this at a young age you will avoid anger like the plague. At the other extreme you may have been on the receiving end of angry parents as a young child and learned to be invisible. But the memory of that pain and the damage that anger did to the relationship between your parents may be another reason that anger is a big taboo.

So how can you possibly ever escape the grip of depression when there is something between depression and happiness that you have powerful programs associated with? If you can’t allow yourself to get angry you can never, ever escape and you will remain depressed forever.

Look also to those others in that space between depression and anger that you have to go through. If you have issues about feeling any of those then you effectively have a barrier that keeps you trapped forever.

Unless, that is, you are willing to explore ways to safely experience those emotions and understand that they are transient energy states that have no meaning – other than the meaning you give to them.

Depression is a withdrawal from feeling anything at all.

So Feel and be Free.

Is Weight Loss Really that Difficult?

Round about lunchtime I nip down the road to my local ASDA coffee-shop and meet for a chat and a cup of coffee with some friends. Mostly it gets me away from the computer screen, gives my eyes a rest and lets me connect with the rest of the world. One of the group mentioned she was going to start losing weight for the summer, so next time we met I gave her a complimentary copy of my book How to Lose Weight and Free Yourself from Dieting Forever. Her dad asked me what the book was about. Obviously it was about weight loss, but that isn’t what he meant – he meant what was my approach to losing weight and how was it different from everything else.

I answered that question in four words “eat less, exercise more”.

“That’s it”, he responded with a smile.

“Well yes”.

I am a man of few words – except when it comes to writing. But essentially that’s what the book is about. But, it’s not just about that. It’s about how to do that easily and effortlessly so that you don’t even really notice you are eating less and exercising more.

As I explained to my friend, it’s about discovering ways to identify those foods that you don’t really want, but eat out of habit and eliminating them. Because you eat them unconsciously, you don’t notice not having them. I encourage you to eat whatever you enjoy and explain how the denial aspect of conventional dieting is one of the major pitfalls and one of the reasons so many people fail when they engage in weight loss using a conventional diet plan.

The book also looks at attitudes to food and where they come from; triggers for emotional eating and how to break that pattern; as well as the reasons why diets just don’t work as a long term solution to weight loss.

Weight loss is an industry worth billions. The weight loss industry is not interested in you being successful. What the weight loss industry needs to do is to convince you that you are the reason you fail. So the whole process is geared around short-term weight loss which proves that their system works (whichever system it might be that you are using), and that your subsequent, and inevitable, weight gains are therefore down to your failure rather than the failure of the system they sell.

This is why weight loss is always a battle when you sign up for Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slimming World, or buy the latest celebrity-authored crazy fad diet book. Even food-type based diets like Atkins are just the same. They have been created with one goal – to convince you that they work, and that when you fail to sustain your weight loss that it is you that has failed.

My book is about how to avoid all of those traps, how to eat whatever you want whenever you want, and still lose weight. There are almost 100 pages so it’s got a lot more in it than “eat less, exercise more”. People who follow the advice in this book lose weight and keep it off.

To make it even easier for you the book ends with a 10-point action plan to make it really simple and there is even a downloadable food diary designed to help you conquer that emotional feasting you do in the hope that feeling bloated and heavy will make you happy.

Check it out the whole book costs less than the attendance fee for just one meeting of Weight Watchers, Slimming World, or Jenny Craig and you can lose weight enjoying ordinary food rather than the high-priced branded stuff these companies want you to eat.

The weight loss industry took $61 billion from its customers in 2012.

Jennifer Saunders Uses Hypnosis To Help With Procrastination and Win £100,000

According to the New Zealand Herald Jennifer Saunders is experiencing a common problem – procrastination. You know, that thing where every trivial task is more important than the most important job you have to finish. It seems that Jennifer Saunders is working on a script for the screen version of Absolutely Fabulous and finding it difficult to complete – even though there is a £100,000 bet to win from her friend Dawn French if she completes before the end of the year.

Jennifer is getting help from her hypnotherapist.

So how exactly might hypnosis help you to do what you don’t really want to do?

Well, in my experience, the problem is never about doing the thing that is causing the procrastination. The problem is about things like fear of success, ‘what will I do when I’ve finished that?’, expecting to fail, fear of what will happen after the task is completed…

Obviously I have no idea what the problem is that Jennifer Saunders is experiencing and I have no intention of speculating. What I like is the idea that she is using hypnotherapy to help her to write a successful script that will turn into a film that I will almost certainly enjoy.

There are several routes that you can take with hypnosis to solve this particular type of problem. You can journey into the past to find out where the problem may have originated; you can move forward in time and see what problems and difficulties show up that you might be subconsciously avoiding; or you could treat it symbolically.

My first choice would be the symbolic one – because when it works it is very quick and very simple.

You can even do it yourself if you know how to use self-hypnosis.

All you have to do is to take yourself into trance, and when you are deeply relaxed, allow an image to form of a barrier that blocks your route to the successful completion of the task. You can imagine the barrier as anything you like: a shark-infested moat, a big stone wall; a minefield; razor wire; or maybe even a pride of lions. Use your imagination, the sillier the better.

Then you have to use your imagination to find a way to get over, through, or destroy the barrier. Because it is your imagination you can create anything you want to help you.

This imagery activates right-brain symbolic processing and, after you do this, you may find yourself effortlessly completing what you were putting off.

Obviously it can be a lot more complicated than this, but all the solution really requires is a willingness to explore your own resistance to completion and allow your subconscious mind to reveal its secrets.

If you want to try this out and need some help with the self-hypnosis part then check out my book Change Your Life with Self Hypnosis where I go into this technique, and others, in much more detail.

Abraham: THE ASTONISHING POWER OF EMOTIONS – Esther & Jerry Hicks

A little bit of a stretch today with a look at how your thoughts impact your world. Esther Hicks (Abraham) talking about their book The Astonishing Power of Emotions.

If using your mind to change your world interests you then also check out Wayne Dyer’s The Power of Intention which is a more grounded view of the same subject and may be more acceptable than a voice from the stars. I would rate The Power of Intention as Wayne Dyer’s all time best book.

Do Vaccines Damage Your Immune System?

The news recently reported an outbreak of mumps at Fordham University in New York. On the day of the report there were 13 cases of mumps confirmed. One interesting factor is that one of the entry requirements for Fordham is proof of vaccination against, amongst other diseases, mumps.

So we have an outbreak of mumps in a University full of students who have all been vaccinated against the disease. The university immediately shifts into panic mode and requires infected students to remain at home and institutes all sorts of hygiene regulations.

All this over a minor, uncomfortable illness that I experienced for a week or so as a child.

The world has gone mad.

Either that or there is just too much money to be made out of compulsory vaccination.

But it got me to thinking, because this news synchronistically showed up after I had written yesterday’s post about needing disease to stay healthy. I looked back at my childhood and the list of diseases that I experienced – measles, chicken pox, mumps, tonsillitis, whooping cough, and I may have had others when I was too young to remember. All most of these meant to me was a couple of weeks off school and a little discomfort in the early stages.

Putting those two things together – getting sick and the necessity of it – reminded me of something I’ve thought for quite a few years now. In fact ever since I’ve been involved and interested in the world of alternative health it has appeared to me that our immune system needs training. That training takes place when we are young and before our bodies become flabby and unfit. The training, just like a work out at the gym to strengthen your muscles, involves fighting invading organisms.

I believe experiencing these diseases when we are young is essential to the health of our immune systems.

Mumps is something you need to experience pre-puberty otherwise it can get very uncomfortable and even cause sterility. What the vaccination programme has clearly done is to push the mumps experience out of its correct place in the body’s developmental cycle and push it to where it likely will cause you some problems. I mean Fordham are making a lot of fuss about this outbreak.

Anyway I figured, that makes sense to me, and my experience tells me that what makes sense to me is frequently true even though no one else believes it. But I was curious to see if any research had been conducted that provided evidence that vaccination weakens the immune system, because otherwise all I had was a theory.

There is a study published in Clinical Pediatrics (sic) in 1988. They looked at the incidence of acute illness in children for the 30 days before and the 30 days after being vaccinated against diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus (DTP).

“A total of 82 healthy infants received DTP, and their symptoms were reported by parents and observed by a pediatrician at weekly intervals. Those babies experienced a dramatic increase in fever, diarrhea, and cough in the month following DTP vaccine compared to their health before the shot.”

This study excluded the three days after vaccination when a fever is a common reaction to the vaccine.

1988!!! That’s 26 years ago.

“An uninformed patient is compliant” says Dr Martin Smith. This is typical of the medical attitude to negative evidence about what they routinely do. It seems to me that the medical attitude is one of if we ignore it, it will go away.

Another study demonstrated that the measles vaccine produced a long-term immune suppression.

Yet another that annual flu vaccination depletes T-cells. T-cells are an important part of a healthy immune system.

A study of dogs at the Purdue Veterinary School showed that vaccinated dogs developed antibodies to many of their own bio-chemicals. This meant that the vaccinated dogs “were attacking their own fibronectin, which is involved in tissue repair, cell multiplication and growth, and differentiation between tissues and organs in a living organism.”

The unvaccinated dogs were perfectly normal.

These studies clearly demonstrated that the dogs developed auto-antibodies to their own DNA.

How did the medical world respond?

‘We need more studies’ anything to continue with things the way they are.

You are going to get bored if I continue quoting research, but there is loads of it out there. Vaccination damages our immune system. The medical world isn’t interested, they believe they are doing good.

As for Big Pharma ineffective vaccines are a huge cash cow – especially when Governments are persuaded to buy them by the shipload. Vaccines are just a licence to print money. The only tests to get FDA approval need to show that they increase the presence of the appropriate antibodies. Other damage isn’t looked for and no long term research on this is conducted by the vaccine manufacturers.

The Big Fear that Big Pharma promotes and encourages is that we will all die horribly and our children will all be crippled and deformed if we don’t pump them full of these chemical concoctions. But all we do is damage our children’s ability to be healthy, whole human beings with a natural ability to ward off disease organisms and enjoy good health and rapid recovery from minor infections.

Is Disease Necessary in Order to be Healthy?

“This analysis implies that there may well be a wisdom to disease, and that people may need disease in order to help them to be healthy. In other words, the existence of disease provides people with essential feedback that informs them of the fundamental rules for survival and evolution.”

Gary Schwartz Ph.D. professor at the University of Arizona in his book The G.O.D. Experiments

I came across this as I was reading The G.O.D. Experiments with my morning cup of tea. It got me thinking about that suggestion that disease is necessary for health.

What could it possibly mean?

After a few moments of reflection I realised what it meant.

I wrote a little while ago about Louise Hay’s excellent book You Can Heal Your Life. In it the author associates particular illnesses and diseases with specific emotional problems. The suggestion is that if you resolve the emotional problem then the illness heals itself. I thought about that and thought about the opening quote and then reflected upon my own experience with minor illnesses.

If you’ve ever played 10 pin bowling you’ll know that there are buffers available to block the gutters so that beginners can learn to enjoy the game and develop their skill at knocking over pins rather than watch their ball go down the sides every time. Illness may be like those buffers – a guide to keep you on track for good health.

But of course this only works if you notice the pattern of circumstances that precede your illness. If colds always follow periods of stress then this might be a gentle hint from your body that says stress is not good for you and creates a lot of toxins in your body. The cold is then necessary to slow you down while your body repairs the stress damage and does a detox.

If the stress increases then you may find that something a little more serious than a cold is created. You could pursue this idea until the final warning becomes a life-threatening disease like cancer. So maybe disease is not really the problem, maybe the problem is the lifestyle, or, as I believe, the thought-style. If this is the case then treating the disease is pointless – it’s a bit like disconnecting the burglar alarm bell because you don’t like the noise. You want to know when there is a burglar in the house. The disease is perhaps letting you know this, and the burglar is the way you think, the things you eat, or even the way you treat other people or allow other people to treat you.

So reflect upon your patterns of illness and see if you can make your own connections between events in your life and the times your body switches on the alarm. If you need some help get hold of a copy of Louise Hay’s book.

And then if you still need some help with the process of healing, get hold of a copy of my book Change Your Life with Self Hypnosis in there I teach you healing techniques that have been used successfully for the treatment of a variety of problems.

Limiting Beliefs & Hypnosis

We are who we are – the blend of innate personality traits plus our life experiences.

We do what we do – even though we’d like to be doing it differently.

We believe that what we believe is true – because a belief is a filter that permanently colours our world view.

We may not like who we are.

We may not be doing what we want to be doing.

What we believe may be causing us unnecessary emotional pain.

But we are either unaware of this, or have no idea how to change it, because it feels normal and we think it is us.

Early life experiences, plus our innate nature, train us to respond to certain situations in specific ways. The basic premise is avoid pain, seek pleasure. Sometimes, the sensitives among us, feel the pain of others as if it were their own. So what they do is take on the responsibility of making sure that others are ok – even it means they do without.

Children with an angry, or a frequently drunk, parent may discover very quickly that being quiet and keeping out of the way is the way to avoid pain. In adulthood you have a quiet person who never voices their opinion – especially if it is different from the prevailing view. It doesn’t matter if the majority are wrong (frequently the case), this individual will remain silent. The echo of the violence from the past is forever present.

An overbearing disciplinarian father, or school teacher, may impress a fear of authority that remains throughout adulthood. This may not even seem like a fear. It may just seem like doing the right thing and being a stickler for the rules. The only problem is that the rules are never questioned, because when the rules were questioned as a child the response was ‘don’t give cheek’ or ‘don’t answer back’.

Any little thing that happened in childhood that caused even momentary emotional discomfort is stored away in the back of the mind and, in adulthood, anything that reminds us of that, or feels a bit like that, or looks a bit like that, is avoided. At the extreme this can become an apparently irrational phobia.

But because these are just things we do and ways we respond and it all seems to happen so naturally we think it is normal for us and so it is only ever questioned when it interferes with earning a living or doing things that cannot be avoided forever.

A phobia of needles, induced, say, by a painful experience with an insensitive doctor at about 18 months of age has to be dealt with when pregnancy occurs – because the medics just love sticking needles in pregnant ladies. At this point a solution will be sought. But while avoidance works – avoidance will be the norm.

If you believe the sun moves across the sky, because your experience tells you that this is true and you have the evidence of your very own eyes then you may resist very strongly the idea that the sun is stationary and that the very solid and stable earth that you are standing on is whizzing along at around 1000 miles an hour. It’s a totally crazy idea that goes against everything you can sense. Your senses are the only way you can make sense of your world. If your senses are lying to you then you have no idea what is going on anywhere. Can you imagine how destabilising that would be? If you cannot trust your senses you cannot trust anything.

In the same way you will have discovered many things that you believe to be true. All of these things will be based on limited evidence, and because you have limited evidence you will draw the wrong conclusions.

You may believe that when you enter a room everyone is immediately, in their own thoughts, criticising the clothes you have chosen to wear today, or have nothing better to do than fill their minds with thoughts about how fat you are.

Our minds crucify us incessantly.

And it all seems perfectly normal.

It isn’t.

You can change it – if you feel that you deserve to live a peaceful, happy, fulfilled, life.

Here’s how…  Check out Change Your Life with Self Hypnosis

But first of all check out this story of how Nathan T. Had his life turned around and his limiting beliefs neutralised by a couple of hypnosis sessions.

http://keystothemind.com/my-first-hypnosis-session/
